Using Generative AI to Improve Workplace Productivity

Course Description

Generative AI can support everyday knowledge work such as drafting, summarizing, brainstorming, organizing information, preparing meeting materials, and analyzing text. Productive use requires more than entering a quick question. Employees must define the task clearly, provide useful context, protect sensitive information, and review every output before using it in an official work product.

This hands-on course teaches participants a repeatable process for working with agency-approved generative AI tools. Participants learn how to write prompts that state the purpose, audience, source information, constraints, desired format, and quality standards. They practice refining prompts and comparing results so they can improve relevance, completeness, tone, and usability.

The course emphasizes responsible use throughout each exercise. Participants learn to recognize unsupported claims, omitted context, bias, and disclosure risks; verify important information against reliable sources; and retain responsibility for the final product. Each participant develops a practical workflow for applying generative AI to an appropriate task in his or her own work.
